Domains & HTTPS

Every website gets a secure address the moment it deploys. Connecting your own domain takes one DNS record.

Your built-in address

Each website is served at its own subdomain, shown on the project page under Always available — for example:

https://a1b2c3d4.apps.kernel6.com

It works as soon as the website is running, with a certificate issued automatically. There is nothing to set up, and it keeps working after you add your own domain.

Adding your own domain

  1. On the project page, under Domains, enter the domain — for example www.yourbusiness.in — and choose Add domain.
  2. Wherever you bought the domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, BigRock, Cloudflare and so on), add one A record pointing at the server address shown on the project page.
  3. Back on the project page, choose Check again. Once the record points at your server, the domain shows Live and its HTTPS certificate is issued automatically.

The DNS record

Use the exact address shown on your project page. It will look like this:

To serveTypeName / HostValue / Points to
www.yourbusiness.inAwww203.0.113.10
yourbusiness.inA@203.0.113.10

203.0.113.10 is an example — use your own server's address. To serve both the bare domain and www, add both as domains and create both records.

Remove any existing A or AAAA records for the same name first, including ones your registrar created by default (often a "parked" page). If two records disagree, visitors land on whichever one their network picks. On Cloudflare, set the record to "DNS only" (grey cloud): a proxied record points at Cloudflare rather than your server, so it cannot be verified.

How verification works

When you add a domain, and whenever you choose Check again, Kernel6 looks up the domain's DNS and checks it resolves to your server. Only then does the domain start being served and get a certificate — that way we never request a certificate for a name that is not pointed at us. If it does not match yet, the page shows what the domain currently points to.

DNS changes usually take a few minutes to be visible, occasionally a few hours depending on your provider. If it says "Waiting for DNS", give it a little time and check again.

HTTPS certificates

Certificates are obtained and renewed automatically for your built-in address and every verified domain. You never upload or renew a certificate yourself.

Limits

  • Up to 5 domains per website.
  • A domain can belong to only one website on the platform, so nobody else can claim a domain that is already in use.
  • Plain hostnames only — no wildcards, ports or paths. Addresses under kernel6.com are reserved for the platform.

Removing a domain

Choose the bin icon next to it. Kernel6 stops serving it and stops renewing its certificate. Remember to remove the DNS record at your registrar too.
